Resource Learning Outcomes

Core learning outcomes

By the time you have worked your way through this resource you will be able to:

1. demonstrate a clear understanding of the pathophysiology of pain and fever and be able to apply it to your practice

2. explain to other colleagues and children and parents the reasons for pain and fever

3. reflect on your own practice and practice setting and identify ways in which your management of pain and fever could be enhanced.

4. identify appropriate assessment/measurement tools when caring for or advising parents of children with pain or fever

5. interpret, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of your practice in relation to pain and fever

6. develop the existing evidence base for your practice in relation to pain and fever.

Personal Learning Outcomes

Whilst we have created a set of six core learning outcomes to guide the way we developed the learning resource and to guide your learning we think it is important for you to create some personal learning outcomes.

These personal learning outcomes are likely to be more individual and focussed on your practice and/or the specific challenges you face.

We suggest that creating three personal learning outcomes would be helpful and we also suggest you think carefully before you finally decide on your own outcomes.  Be realistic and ensure that you write learning outcomes to stretch you but which don’t overwhelm you.

An example might be:

By the time I have finished, this resource I will be:

• more confident in explaining fever management to parents of children who have been admitted after a febrile convulsion.
